Basch-Francoise-Victor-Basch-Livre-903482947_LFrançoise BASCH a enseigné de nombreuses années à l’Université Paris 7 Denis Diderot dans le département de Civilisation anglo-américaine. Spécialiste de l’histoire des femmes, elle a publié plusieurs ouvrages sur des pionnières britanniques et américaines.C’est son expérience vécue pendant l’Occupation avant et après l’assassinat de ses grands-parents par la Milice et la Gestapo en janvier 1944, y compris sa condition d’enfant cachée quelques mois de 1944, qui l’incita, bien des années plus tard, à se lancer dans une biographie de son grand-père, Victor Basch. Ses engagements pour l’indépendance de l’Algérie, puis dans les luttes féministes s’inscrivent dans les traces des combats que Victor Basch (1863-1944) avait menés dans les rangs puis à la tête de la Ligue des Droits de l’Homme. Dreyfusard pendant l’Affaire, il milita ensuite de toutes ses forces contre le régime nazi, et pour l’accueil des réfugiés allemands, autrichiens, enfin des Républicains espagnols à la fin de la guerre d’Espagne.
A l’issue de sa conférence, Françoise Basch dédicacera son livre « Ilona, ma mère et moi , une famille juive à l’épreuve de l’Occupation. » Editions iXe.
