Jeudi 7 avril 2022, l’ADVR a reçu, à la Mairie du 20e, Etienne Egret, secrétaire-mémoire du camp de Voves pour une conférence intitulée « Voves, un camp de concentration en France ». Etienne Egret après nous avoir présenté l’histoire du camp a évoqué avec passion la vie quotidienne des détenus. Il a présenté les multiples activités culturelles de « l’université » organisée par les prisonniers, essentiellement des communistes qui maintenaient ainsi le moral et préparaient l’avenir.
Etienne Egret nous a conté les évasions dont les plus spectaculaires sont celles des faux gendarmes et celle du tunnel. Une dizaine de prisonniers déguisés en gendarmes ont ainsi franchi l’entrée du camp à la barbe des gardiens et se sont évanouis dans la nature. Quant au tunnel (creusé sur plus de 140 mètres en évacuant 70 m3 de terre), qui a servi de modèle pour le film ‘La grande évasion », il a permis l’évasion de plus de 40 prisonniers. Tous les évadés ont repris le combat et un certain nombre d’entre eux y ont laissé leur vie. Le camp de Voves n’était pas qu’un simple camp d’internement il était aussi un réservoir d’otages et l’antichambre de la déportation vers les camps
allemands.
Inlassablement Etienne Egret poursuit son travail sur le camp de Voves: réaménagement du musée, cérémonies mémorielles, conférences, co-publication avec Dominique Philippe d’ouvrages: « Voves 1942-1944, un camp en Eure-et-Loir », « Voves 1942-1944, l’Université, culture et résistance » et un troisième est en préparation.
N’oublions jamais, écrivent Etienne Egret et Dominique Philippe, que sur plus de 2000 internés à Voves, 605 ont été déportés en Allemagne et seuls 194 ont survécu.
