Le 15 juin1943, Jules Dumont, le »colonel Paul », chef militaire FTP de la région Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Aisne-Ardennes, colonel des Brigades Internationales pendant la guerre d’Espagne, chef du « bataillon Commune de Paris » de la première Brigade, puis chef du « bataillon la Marseillaise » de la 14e Brigade, qui va être fusillé au Mont Valerien, écrit à sa famille sa dernière lettre… Bien des années après, Françoise, sa petite-fille, découvre cette lettre dans un tiroir.
Il s’ensuit alors un long cheminement au cours duquel elle écrit une biographie de son grand-père : « La promesse de l’oubli », puis un roman pour la jeunesse : « Isidore d’Espagne », et enfin ce petit livre de réflexions autour de cette dernière lettre de Jules Dumont : « Le seuil de cet instant » (editions Tirésias-Michel-Reynaud.). Au cours de ces quatre-vingts pages d’un style très poétique, elle laisse errer sa pensée autour de cet événement qui la hante, pour essayer de savoir comment Jules Dumont a vécu les derniers instants de sa vie.
Un beau texte, et un bel hommage de sa petite-fille à cet homme
qui a tout sacrifié à la lutte qu’il a menée contre le fascisme.
